A glimpse into the world of perfumery

Perfume, one of the most important complements of beauty and elegance, expresses personality and attractiveness, and adds a lot of freshness, beauty, and sophistication to its wearer. The roots of perfume making and its use go back thousands of years. The ancients made it from flowers, fragrant plants, and herbs with a strong scent. Then musk and ambergris were discovered and extracted from animals. Nowadays, luxurious perfume is sold at high prices, and experts excel in making it and adding wonderful and refreshing blends to it. There are many famous perfume brands. Perfume is not just a luxury, but a fundamental pillar and part of a person's personality. The scent of perfume expresses the taste of its owner, and it has many benefits. In addition to giving a beautiful scent, perfume improves mood, relieves feelings of depression, gives a feeling of optimism, and enhances positive energy. There are many types of perfume, and under each type fall hundreds of brands, varieties, and scents.

Perfumes are divided into 4 categories according to concentration and scent.

perfume

Perfume is the most expensive fragrance version of the perfume category. It has a high concentration of fragrance, at 25%, and the smallest amount of perfume on the skin is enough for the fragrance to diffuse with its notes and has a high stability. That is why perfumes are often sold in small sizes despite their high price due to the high concentration of fragrance.

Eau de parfum

The lighter version of perfume, the essential oil content is 15% - 20%.

Suitable for spraying on clothes, and although the percentage of perfume is lower than perfume, its stability lasts for extended periods and its price is cheaper than concentrated perfume.

Eau de toilette

The refreshing version of the perfume, with an essential oil content of up to 15%.

Most perfumes of this type are light and refreshing summer fragrances because the first spray you get from a perfume with this description is usually refreshing and the top note is dominant.

Eau de Cologne

The lowest quality version contains a percentage of essential oil, approximately 2% to 4% of the oil. Perfumes of this type are refreshing. They are sold in large sizes and at a reasonable and relatively cheap price.

The aromatic notes of any perfume

Simply put, it's a plan for blending ingredients to create a fragrance.

Because scents require so much sensitivity, taste, and skill, they are called aromatic notes, by analogy to the notes in musical compositions.

The fragrance notes must be harmonious and thoughtfully blended; the beauty of the entire perfume depends on the harmony of these notes.

The fragrance consists of three levels of notes:

Top notes

It is the first thing smelled when spraying perfume; it usually lasts for a short period and disappears within 5-10 minutes, after which the heart of the note begins to appear.

The ingredients in the top notes are usually distinctive and clear to give the first impression, but these ingredients disappear and evaporate quickly.

Like citrus scents, powdery scents, light floral scents

Middle note

It starts to appear after the top note fades, usually 15-20 minutes after spraying the perfume.

The components of this layer are heavier and consist of the main fragrance scent along with the base note.

These are often flowers with strong scents such as jasmine or gardenia, or even spices like cinnamon.

Base note

This is the layer that interacts most with the skin, and it's what makes the fragrance differ from person to person.

Its scent will usually not appear until after a period of no less than 30 minutes to an hour!

Depending on body temperature and the fragrance's interaction with your body

The base of the fragrance contains the ingredients that stabilize the scent, as well as the bold and powerful notes.

The scent of incense, leather, musk, and sandalwood

You might be wondering why these notes were explained?!!!

To help you understand the art of perfumery and how to buy your favorite fragrance

Perhaps someone liked a perfume in the store, but after returning home they didn't like it.

The explanation for what happened is that she only liked the top note in the perfume!!!

It is the first component of a perfume scent that does not last long.

And the true components of the perfume that reacted with his body at home became apparent to him.

Therefore, it is essential to know your own fragrance family, the ones you like and that suit you.

There are so many different and overlapping fragrance lines

However, perfume experts classify fragrance families into 8 main categories:

These lines can overlap with their neighbors and form branch lines... Here in this circle there are 14 branch lines!!

And of course, there are larger and wider aromatic circles... and the larger the circle and the sub-lines, the more precise and defined the line becomes.

This means your main fragrance line might be oriental, but your secondary line could be a blend of oriental and floral.

And also in the larger fragrance circles, they will tell you exactly what you like from the oriental range.

This means your fragrance line could be oriental floral spicy!!

Or perhaps your fragrance preference is fresh and invigorating, but you don't particularly like strong citrus scents; you prefer them with herbs, for example.

There are many sub-menus, but with time you will get to know yourself better.

Floral

The largest, most famous, and most widely used perfume line throughout history relies primarily on flowers as the heart of the fragrance. The perfume here may be concentrated on a single flower, or it may be a collection of flowers.

These perfumes are often released in the spring because they give a lovely freshness.

This line is predominantly feminine, but sometimes experts create a men's fragrance from it with a change in the aromatic notes. This line is very delicate, soft, and extremely feminine.

It is recommended for special romantic occasions such as honeymoons and wedding days.

Including...

Oriental

These are oriental, warm, and luxurious perfumes, considered among the oldest perfumes with a long and rich history spanning thousands of years.

Among the earliest oriental perfumes used by humans were mastic and spices infused in certain oils.

Oriental perfumes were and still are associated to this day with certain religious rituals in the cities of Zheji, India.

Even here, we like to burn incense on Fridays; the men put on oud oil before going to the mosque.

I even saw people who believe that fumigating the house with mastic at sunset drives away jinn.

It is classified as seductive, powerful, and sexually arousing.

Because of its warm ingredients and mysterious scents that give an impression of boldness to its owners.

This category is usually produced in winter and is best used in the evenings, for special occasions and parties.

It is a symbol of the elite and luxury, as its components are rare, expensive, and luxurious.

Oriental perfumes are often heavy and oily, which is why they are among the most stable and longest-lasting perfumes.

Fresh

Fresh perfumes, or perfumes that we usually call... a clean scent, are also called sporty perfumes.

It is a list that includes a collection of fragrance lines... old and new

Citrus

Aqua

Herbs/Green

Fruits

This list is classified as...light, morning, summery, refreshing, and energizing.

I will explain its parts because its details are truly unique in themselves.

This list includes:

Citrus

Citrus perfumes, or as we say, lemon scents... a very old fragrance line. The notes of the perfume may consist of grapefruit, orange, bergamot, lemon, mandarin... etc.

It also includes anything that comes from these trees, such as orange blossoms or their oils.

The important thing is that in the end they get that lovely citrus scent

This list can be described as having light perfumes, but at the same time, they are clear and sharp. It is difficult for anyone not to notice the scent of lemon!

These perfumes are perfect for mornings and summers because they are invigorating, rejuvenating, and uplifting.

Purely citrus fragrances are considered masculine; citrus fragrances with a light floral blend are considered feminine.

Herbs/Green

Perfumes extracted from aromatic herbs

Rosemary, mint, rosemary, basil, myrrh, lavender, patchouli...etc.

It is considered a clear and strong fragrance... the scent of mint, for example, is very distinctive and strong.

If you're looking at a collection of perfumes, it's very easy to tell that a particular fragrance contains lavender.

It might even be one of the first ingredients you smell

This style is also considered masculine unless it's softened with flowers, in which case it becomes slightly more feminine.

Aqua

Aquatic perfumes are similar in scent to water, whether it's the scent of rain, oceans, sea breeze, etc.

It feels refreshing with a sense of dew and moisture!

That's why this category of perfumes are purely summer fragrances... they give a feeling of cleanliness and coolness.

It is a newly developed perfume; the first perfume of this category was produced in 1991.

Of course, these are manufactured perfumes, and while they may use natural notes, the majority are synthetic compounds.

It makes you smell something like rain or the sea...etc.

It is recommended to use it during job interviews!

Because it is pure and does not give potentially false impressions about the job applicant.

Imagine a woman going to a job interview and smelling of a strong, mysterious, and warm oriental perfume!!

It might give the impression that she is a strong and rebellious person, and perhaps not cooperative at work!!

Including...

Fruits

Fruity fragrances are beautifully light, naturally summery, being refreshing and cheerful.

From the lists of perfumes that have recently become very popular

Companies started producing perfumes with a single fruit scent, like strawberry for example.

Or sometimes a collection of fruits with flowers

And sometimes they mix it with nuts like almonds, hazelnuts, and peanuts, and sometimes with chocolate.

Including...

Woody

aa

This fragrance line, based on woody notes, is very close to oriental perfumes and shares almost the same spirit.

Because its scents are warm and mysterious, but the list of woody scents includes different types of wood.

Oriental woods such as frankincense, sandalwood, and vetiver (although it is an herb, its scent is woody and thus falls into this category).

Tree woods... such as rosewood, cedar, walnut, pine, neem, etc.

Until we reach the borders of the herbs

These notes are generally considered masculine because they are powerful, but they could be used to create a very beautiful women's font.

Including...

The world of fragrance notes is vast, and every day they try to discover new scents from everything in order to create distinctive fragrances.

The perfumer, or perfumer, is the one who can use the most unusual notes to create a beautiful fragrance.

There are perfumes with aromatic notes such as croissant, Coca-Cola, liquor, cappuccino, popcorn, turmeric... and the list goes on.
